Consistency is the Key at Bentley Fish Bar

After just 18 months at the Bentley Fish Bar, Suki Sandhu, his wife Ranjit and their manager, Keith Carter, have picked up the accolade of Best Fish & Chips in the area, as voted for by more than 60,000 customers and readers of the local newspaper. Says Suki “The shop had a really good reputation before we took it over, so the real challenge was to maintain the consistency and keep up the standards that had already been set.” And that’s clearly what they’ve done!

Suki believes that the quality of his batter really has made the difference. He uses Goldensheaf Standard Batter Mix and finds that it stays crisp and firm in the hot box: it’s the most reliable batter mix he’s found. He also offers plenty of added value products including three kinds of curry and one gravy. His customers like the choice, knowing that if they want something spicy, they can opt for Red Sail Curry Sauce, for something sweeter, it’s Dinaclass Irish Curry Sauce, or for the traditionalists, Dinaclass Curry Sauce with no sultanas. Suki’s customers like a savoury gravy, so he serves Dinaclass Rich Onion Gravy Mix and again, consistency is important. Suki’s gravy is made in the morning and stored in a bain marie until opening. He finds that Dinaclass Gravy keeps really well this way.

Offering something new to customers is also important for Suki. And his latest introduction is Goldensheaf Chip Coater – a light batter designed specifically for coating chips. This has proved to be a real winner, as within just weeks, half his chip sales have converted to coated chips. “The new Goldensheaf Chip Coater is very good and extremely easy to use – really brilliant. It’s very soft on the palate and also seals the chips, so they stay beautifully moist and light.” He comments. “The coated chips are really popular with everyone from kids to grannies buying them!”

With so much going on, Suki, Ranjit and Keith are determined to continue to offer customers what they want and once again, their aim for the future is to maintain the consistency of the success they’ve achieved so far and continue to offer those products that consistently work for their business.
